Facebook and Instagram Suffer Outage on April 8th, 2021

April 9, 2021
The outage caused a 71% drop in internet traffic from the popular social media service Instagram, according to Kentik’s OTT Service Tracker.

Traffic from Instagram began a precipitous drop at 21:27 UTC (5:27pm ET) before experiencing a partial recovery at 21:48 UTC. Traffic levels for the impacted Facebook services did not return to normal until 22:13 UTC.

The outage took place only three weeks after Facebook suffered another crippling outage on March 19th. This time, Facebook blamed the outage on a configuration change.
