Internet blackout in Sudan now in fifth day following military coup

October 25, 2021
The on-going internet blackout in Sudan has entered its fifth day following a military coup on Monday.

According to Kentik aggregate NetFlow data, internet traffic to mobile operators Zain (Mobitel) and Sudatel stopped around 2:25 UTC (4:25am local) while traffic to MTN Sudan stopped around 4:10 UTC (6:10am local) on 25 Oct. There was a brief restoration of services lasting a little more than an hour on 26 Oct.

Sudan has experienced multiple internet shutdowns in recent years starting as far back as an incident in September 2013 as well as blackouts this summer to prevent student cheating on exams.
